Velvet is in!

Fabrics have always had a significant role in a room design. The difference in texture and structure creates various visual and tactile effects that affect our mood. This especially refers to the choice of fabrics for the sofa set, on which we spend plenty of time and where we are in a direct contact with fabrics.

This year’s trends introduce velvet as one of the most important fabrics for interior design.

Velvet is a very soft fabric, pleasant to the touch, primarily thanks to its ragged structure. It can be made out of silk or cotton, artificial fabrics or mixture of natural and artificial fabrics. The most esteemed is the silk velvet. It dates back to 14th century India. The noblemen and rich merchants used to wear it, it was the reflection of wealth and luxury, but lately it has unfortunately been neglected. It was associated with the children’s clothes or clothes for elderly people.

Velvet is a visually dynamic fabric, because it creates the impression of light and shadow or a metalized effect, so it can be used as a lining of the whole sofa set or just for accessories – parts of a sofa set, decorative pillows or a little armchair covered in velvet.

A very modern patchwork pattern offers the possibility of combining velvet and other fabrics, thus creating an interesting design, while Chesterfield pattern additionally emphasizes the play of light and shadow on the surface of the fabric.

Bed in the sleeping room can also be covered in velvet. By introducing this material, the bedroom will instantly become a very elegant place. You should enrich it with pillows made out of the same or similar fabric. Working corner can also be enriched with the velvet cover of the office chair.

Red, blue, grey, yellow – all these are trendy colours that will look great in the velvet edition. This fabric gives a very elegant and rich impression of the place, so it is desirable to combine it with large decorative items, decors that follow the leitmotif of pillows or of the main fabric, and a bigger coffee table. Velvet excellently suits the extravagant pieces of furniture, therefore, opens the path towards various styles.

Since it is a very dynamic and emphasized material, it is recommended to combine it with non-metalized colours and objects. The play of matte and shiny effect will create much more interesting spatial relations than the excessive stressing of the glow.

To all those who are not prone to velvet, but want a trendy designed space, we recommend placing at least two decorative pillows on a sofa set, in a colour and pattern that will suit the space. The time has come for this fabric to get a new chance to show all its beauty!
