“The project aims to convey the image of Cersaie by defining the ceramic production process in terms of the product’s raw materials, namely earth and water. These elements are used to form unfired clay, which is then shaped and decorated to create the finished product. A photograph of the individual components and the combined raw materials is used to symbolise the process and all the elements organised in the form of a square.”
This is the concept behind the image that will be used for the 2015 edition of Cersaie, the world’s most important exhibition of ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings. The poster image for the 23rd edition of the show was designed by Elena Del Prete and Guglielmo Gennari, students on the Degree course in Industrial Design at the IUAV University of Venice – University of the Republic of San Marino, who won the fifth edition of Beautiful Ideas, the competition promoted by Confindustria Ceramica and Edi.Cer which offers students at universities and design institutes the opportunity to create the image for subsequent editions of the show.
Invitations to take part in the 2015 Beautiful Ideas competition were extended to IED Florence (course of Graphic design for publishing), Bari Polytechnic (degree course in Industrial Design), Milan Polytechnic (degree course in Communication Design), and IUAV of Venice – University of San Marino (degree course in Industrial Design). The brief given to teachers at the four institutions covered nine basic concepts, four on the theme “Una Fiera, è una Fiera, è una Fiera” (“A Fair is a Fair is a Fair”) and five on the theme “Il Prodotto-intersezioni” (“The Product-intersections”), which would serve as the starting points for the projects.
Out of the 22 submitted projects, developed through master’s courses and individual and group workshops, the jury consisting of Beppe Finessi, Aldo Colonetti and Anna Steiner chose the one created by Elena Del Prete and Guglielmo Gennari. The figures for Cersaie 2014 confirmed the show’s status as the top international event for the ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings sectors. There were a total of 100,000 admissions during the five days of the show, corresponding to 66,096 unique visitors, 3.6% more than at the previous year’s show. The event’s growing international appeal is confirmed by the numbers of international visitors, who totalled 23,363 (4.1% more than the previous year).
The 33rd Cersaie, to be held in Bologna from Monday 28 September to Friday 2 October 2015, will be a major event for professionals in search of the latest trends in interior design and will be of special interest to architects, interior designers, tile fixers, construction firms and homeowners from all over the world who are about to embark on home renovation projects.
