Refinement, elegance, beauty and quality of materials are just some of the reasons to choose a classic style of home decoration. Most popular decorating styles are Baroque, Empire and Biedermeier.
Baroque appears in the 17th century, and in the manufacture of furniture and furnishing it is characterized by dynamic forms, and the play of light and shadow. Decorations combined with wood put reflection of light to the fore, which makes elements of furniture more dynamic. Ornaments are usually in the form of shells and acanthus leaves. Subtle carvings, rich inlays, slender columns and curved lines, make Baroque special and popular to this day.
Empire style is derived from Classicism, which occurs in the period between Baroque and Biedermeier. It is characterized by rigor and splendor – painted furniture, decoration with gilding, and black color is often used. Empire, as an inspiration for “modern” classic furniture, offers more moderate lines with the highlights of this style and quality types of wood from which this furniture is made.
Biedermeier was developed in response to the empire, which had prevailed until 1814. First elements of the Biedermeier furniture were created in Vienna. They are characterized by practicality and modesty compared to the previous style, but at the same time it is a cozy and comfortable style which is particularly felt in the seating furniture. Emphasized is the intimacy and functionality, which is the main reason for the popularity of this style until today. All previous styles have influenced Biedermeier and one might say that it has taken the best from each of the previous ones.
In equipping residential interiors chairs, sofas, cabinets, chests, desks, bookshelves, nightstands, etc. are regularly used. Sewn buttons, inlays, straps, and lace are used for decoration. The most popular materials are wood, leather, iron, etc. The forms are simple and functional for use. Biedermeier presents the first results of industrialization and standardization, and it is the typical style of the civil society.
On the market today there are lines of furniture under various commercial names, which represent a mixture of classic and modern styles. They represent a true refreshment of classic styles, as they bring them closer to those who are not their fans. In this way, once again it is being proved that classic styles can easily transform and adapt to all individuals and their requirements.
