Peter Marino, one of the best interior designers in the field, is confidently crafting his ultimate ski getaway. The sensational Rocky Mountain retreat was designed for himself and his wife and was inspired by a trip he took with his daughter, Isabelle, to the Galápagos Islands. Today, Boca do Lobo takes you into a tour through this luxury getaway, giving you some interior design inspirations and ideas for the cold season.
While the side of the house that backs up to the mountain features walls of solid stone along with the main level, the opposite façade is dominated by expanses of glass that capture stunning views of the high-altitude terrain and the twinkling lights of the town below.
Describing the home as a sporty ski chalet, Marino says he purposely limited the primary materials to a few simple elements: cedar, stucco, and slate.
Transparency and large areas give interior spaces a singular touch of modernity and personality, fusing the outdoor view with the indoor design set.
Stunning mountain views frame some luxury furniture in his master bedroom such as this rustic armchair by Jean Michel Frank placed by the door to the balcony. The rug was also custom made for his mountain retreat.
The master bathroom is sheathed in a highly figured rosa candoglia marble that Marino found on a buying trip to Carrara, Italy. The lighting, mirrors, and vanity were also devised by the architect.
The house’s dramatic form, with a pointed balcony and overhangs, as inspired by the image of birds taking flight in the mountains.
