Two of the tallest living walls in the United Arab Emirates were installed in the lobby of the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club; an important accomplishment for one of the best known private golf clubs in the country which offers a variety of business services as well as recreational structures. As a place of luxury, it offers unique experiences, just as Sheik Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Thani intended.
Sundar Italia was selected to create these twin walls which were designed in collaboration with AD-MYRA SA. The walls are on the sides of the main entrance and reach a height of 14 meters and a width of 4.5 meters for a total surface of 126 sq mt. They create a spectacular cascade of flowers and plants that change in appearance and color as the seasons of the year progress – a fascinating and exciting installation to greet the club’s guests and visitors.
Sundar Italia’s botanists carefully chose 26 different species for a total of 9,400 plants including orchids, white and red anthuriums, ficus, and many other green plants in a variety of sizes. All of the plants were precultivated in the protected greenhouse at the Sundar Italia headquarters and then transferred to the site so that when they arrived, the walls were a finished product, even esthetically.
The panels were transported to the United Arab Emirates as special cargo in a temperature-controlled environment and were installed on-site on support walls which were outfitted with automatic irrigation, fertilization, and sanitizing system.
Avant-garde technology makes it possible for both the structure’s gardeners and for Sundar Italia to keep the walls under constant surveillance, thereby ensuring continuous care and immediate support should it become necessary. The coordination between the Sundar Italia team, the designers, and the operations team made it possible to complete the installation of the living walls in only one day.
The lobby is also adorned with two reflecting pools positioned directly under the living walls. The resulting esthetic impact is remarkable and was studied to emphasize the sense of tranquility, well being, and harmony that is exuded in this place where luxury, innovation, and attention to detail are the foundation of every service.
