Artistic washbasin that looks like a wicker basket, a beautiful flower with a ringed corolla, a streamlined star that, thanks to a light breath, reveals unexpected magic of design and brings marble art into the bathroom interior. Designed by the Italian artist and industrial designer Paolo Ulian, Intreccio is a bathroom sink made of natural light marble in only 55 kg. This work of art is born from an 11-centimeter block of marble stone on which the tailoring has been optimized to obtain the concentric rings and create a three-dimensional volume. The numerical control machining technologies allow obtaining a curvilinear marble washbasin drastically reducing the waste of the material during production.
Iconic like the previous designer washbasins of the collection from antoniolupi; dynamic, for the particular geometry of the concentric layers that are staggered when they are overlapped proceeding upwards, so as to determine an artistic play of light and dark and full and empty obtained only by the variation of light on concave or convex forms.
The artistic work of man meets nature to give life to Intreccio, the freestanding washbasin made entirely of natural marble stone, which plays on the relationship between lightness and solidity of the material from which it’s created, on the balance between a sophisticated design piece and an apparently natural form. This designer washbasin represents the natural evolution of the creative path undertaken more than a year ago by the manufacturer antoniolupi and the designer Paolo Ulian, to investigate the relationship between an ancient material and contemporary processing techniques.
Design Technology and Research, Saving Resources and Materials
Intreccio freestanding bathroom sink is made of a block of marble on which the shaping process has been optimized to obtain all the parts necessary to create a three-dimensional volume of this artistic piece. The numerical control machining technologies have allowed obtaining curvilinear and thin shapes, light, almost as if they were of another material and not of marble.
With this work-of-art washbasin, the research of the Italian brand antoniolupi further investigates a topic that is of saving resources and materials during the product manufacturing. A single block of marble is divided into 4 parts from which 4 washbasins are created. The rings that make up Intreccio are concentric because they have to be obtained one inside the other from the block of marble, thus drastically reducing the waste of the material.
The lightness of this bathroom product is also on the manufacturer’s mind since the weight has always been a significant factor in the manufacturing of marble products. Intreccio weighs “only” 55 kilograms. Lightness, the technology that becomes an aesthetic expression, and material savings summarize at best a design project of great impact, an element that gives life to a composition of the elegant and contemporary bathroom interior.
