Every color of the spectrum can be incorporated into countless interesting schemes. Some of the best (and trendy) color schemes are: neutral, monochromatic, analogous, and complementary. Discover a few of the interior designer’s tips for decorating with these top color schemes. 🙂

Neutral Scheme

The neutral scheme is the perfect foundation for displaying bright-colored accessories such as vases or pictures, the beauty of which will be the most noticeable on an inconspicuous white or beige background. This is precisely why this elegant scheme is applied to decorating art galleries or museums. Create a neutral scheme for your home by combining white, black, grey, and beige. It’s a lovely choice for the living room or bedroom decor.

Neutral tones in contrasting combinations (black-white) are recommended for decorating large interior spaces. On the other hand, the same or similar light tones of furniture and flooring will visually enlarge the interior of a small square footage.

The same applies to other color schemes – large interior spaces are decorated with contrasting combinations and dark/warm colors, while cool and light colors are a great choice for small apartments or houses.

Monochromatic Color Scheme

A monochromatic scheme can create a dynamic interior based on one color. If you place several tones of the same color, for example, light and dark tones of green, and add different textures, the result will be a room that is exciting but at the same time calming. The monochromatic scheme can be used in all rooms (depending on the chosen color).

Analogous Color Scheme

Create an analogous or harmonic scheme from the three colors that are situated next to each other on the color wheel. For instance, blue, blue-green, and green, or green, green-yellow, and yellow. This scheme is a welcome addition to decorating all rooms because it has a relaxing effect.

Complementary Scheme

A complementary or contrasting scheme consists of two colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. The colorful couples are – red and green, yellow and purple, and blue and orange. Those two colors are in natural harmony and perfectly complement and highlight each other.

For example, red is a primary color whose complement is green – a secondary color created by combining the remaining two primary colors (yellow and blue). In this way, the cool green brings the warm red into balance – merging it with the other two primary colors of the spectrum. This scheme in which opposites attract is very active and, therefore, suitable for interior spaces in which you wish to enhance activity and creativity.
