VORWERK FURBISHES PIERRE HUYGHE EXHIBITION AT MUSEUM LUDWIG IN COLOGNE

Museum Ludwig is inaugurating  the first retrospective  of work by the internationally  renowned French artist Pierre Huyghe on the 11th of April in Cologne under the auspices of the Art Cologne 2014 art fair. Vorwerk is supporting the exhibition with the short-pile Bingo carpet.

Pierre Huyghe is one of the most significant and extremely influential artists of his generation. The first major exhibition by this artist in the German-speaking  region is now taking place in co-operation with the Centre Pompidou in Paris: Museum Ludwig is exhibiting over 60 works and projects, including objects and installations, photographs, films, drawings, performances and ‘living entities’. Pierre Huyghe has designed a spectacular exhibition architecture that involves all the senses for the exhibition, which originally ran in Paris and was highly acclaimed by the public.

The floor for the installation L’expedition scintillante, Acte 8 (light box) (2002), which is located in a separately partitioned room, is completely laid out with carpeting from Vorwerk in order to soundproof the room. In addition visitors can sit or lie down on the carpet to view the installation and film in a relaxed manner.

Katia Baudin, currently acting directress at the Museum Ludwig who conceived the exhibition working closely together with Pierre Huyghe, explains: “It was important to us that visitors are able to take their time for the installation L’expédition scintillante, Acte 8 (light box) and be able to experience the oeuvre in its entirety in peace and quiet.

The carpet has to be inviting and convey a pleasant spatial feel to accomplish this so that visitors recognise the possibility to sit on the carpet and view the installation.”

PIERRE HUYGHE

For more than 20 years French artist Pierre Huyghe (*1962 in Paris) has been constructing situations bound to a specific place and time that plumb the depths of the exhibition process. In recent years he has displayed a particular interest in systems that are closed unto themselves comprised of living things and artefacts, which he leaves to follow their own ‘rhythm’ within the exhibition context.

MUSEUM LUDWIG

This museum for modern and contemporary art in Cologne, Germany houses the largest Pop Art collection outside the USA, the world’s third-largest Picasso collection, as well as collections focusing on the Russian avant-garde and Expressionism.  It has thereby attained a world-class ranking within the international museum landscape.
