Ballerina-Küchen: World première for a new generation of kitchens

German kitchens are considered the most innovative worldwide. Innovation means treading new paths. Using products with ecological benefits is one of the most important future topics in the world today.

The first GreenTecKitchen on the market comes from Ballerina-Küchen. It is made of wood-based boards containing roughly 30% annual plants instead of wood – BalanceBoard by Pfleiderer AG. The board has been awarded several distinctions and nominations by industry experts as well as design experts. In addition to the AIT-xia innovation award, Pfleiderer also won both the Interzum Award High Quality Product and the distinction Design Plus Material Vision for its new material.

Winners and runners-up were selected by the BMK (federal association of small and medium-sized kitchen retailers) on 16 September 2012. Ballerina ranked first for the Innovation Award 2012 with its GreenTecKitchen.

The substrate has a volume weight 30% lower than that of conventional chipboard, while at the same time displaying comparable strength and processing characteristics for production and assembly. This is due to the middle layer which comprises wood chips mixed with roughly 35% lightweight granulated biomass based on annuals and other raw materials which grow quickly near the production facility – a major advantage ensuring secure supplies when wood is scarce.

Like wood, the granulated plant material stores CO2 in the kitchen. In this way, the board durably binds the carbon dioxide accumulated in the fast-growing raw materials in the course of a single summer. The board’s low weight also reduces energy consumption during manufacture and transport.

In addition to ecological advantages, the GreenTecKitchen is also very much easier to transport to the customer and to assemble. It weighs 20% less than a conventional kitchen.

For a base unit with worktop, that means a reduction of 7 kg in weight. For an average kitchen with 14 cabinet units, that means a reduction of 82 kg or 6 six crates of beer.

The kitchen not only delights its users, but also the fitters who assemble and install it, and retailers can save money on the fuel needed for transport.

The new GreenTecKitchen is designed with elegant basalt effect. Its architecture and design are characterized by clear and simple classical lines.

The kitchen complements the living area with elegant basalt decor and blends with it to form a single unit.

Elegant basalt is also a decor that radiates durability through its unobtrusive natural look. This stone finish is timeless, remaining modern for many years without being subject to short-lived trends.

Users can feel good in a GreenTecKitchen, for they have bought and own a kitchen manufactured with the environment in mind. They are helping to save energy and contributing to the CO2 balance, and protecting their health and that of their children. Their kitchen is protecting our forests.

Energy-efficient appliances from Bosch make saving energy and protecting the environment an all-round kitchen concept. The use of super-efficient Bosch appliances not only saves a great deal of energy, but also water and money. The Bosch brand stands for sustainability and offers one of the largest ranges of energy-efficient household appliances for all product areas.

All Ballerina models, be it cabinets, shelf units, panels, modular panels or worktops, as well as customized special units, are available in this new material for an individually designed kitchen and living area.

Like all Ballerina kitchens, the GreenTecKitchen is naturally available with matching interior and exterior carcase decor. In other words, with the easy-care elegant basalt finish inside, too.
