The renowned panel of experts for the German Design Award 2014 has presented the highes honor to the chair series PRO (Design: Konstantin Grcic). In addition, Flötotto is pleased about the recognition of another product this year: The furniture system ADD by Werner Aisslinger is also a recipient of the German Design Award.
The coveted Gold Award of the German Design Award represents extraordinary achievements in the ten categories of the prestigious competition and is awarded just once for each category. The chair PRO, initially designed as school furniture by Konstantin Grcic for Flötotto, was introduced for the first time at the beginning of 2012 at the imm cologne and has now been expanded into a versatile collection. The wide range of models, along with its high level of functionality and outstanding aesthetics, makes PRO an attractive chair for both private and contract usage.
The unique feature of the chair series PRO is the exceptional seating comfort that comes from three factors: First of all, the rounded seating surface is shaped almost like that of a stool such that it does not force one’s body forward. The narrow backrest facilitates side movements of one’s body. The third and key characteristic is the distinctive S-form of the seat shell in the back area. The lower swing allows freedom of movement and relieves the back and pelvis. At the same time, the three-dimensional deformation of the seat shell has a stabilizing effect through which the plastic shell can be manufactured without the addition of stiffening fiberglass. The backward curved top edge of the shell enables changing sitting positions – and the environmental demands of the jurors were also met.
The furniture system ADD by Werner Aisslinger features an innovative joint design, which connects all constructed parts with each other. In addition, the front, side and back parts can simply be clipped on and off with the press of a button.
