AGGREGATI: an eco-friendly, bioclimatic veranda through which outdoor and indoor spaces harmoniously converse
This project by designer Davide Vercelli has arisen from a new concept of eco-friendly and sustainable verandas.
Selva Vetri is a company in Piedmont that specializes in the design and execution of verandas, orangeries and winter gardens.
At the Cersaie 2013 event AGGREGATI (gathered), the company had launched a new concept for bioclimatic verandas – developed in collaboration with designer Davide Vercelli – in which various materials are combined to carry out different and complementary roles. Steel is used to support the wood, while the wood holds the glass panes. Both materials form the framework encasing the Brise Soleil structures.
The latter form the essence and distinctive trait of the project and have been made by geometrically assembling wooden sticks of various diameters and naturally irregular shapes, to create a shield through which light passes and plays evocatively with shadows.
Aggregati is a modular veranda, whose internal framework is made from Ecolarice laminated timber (Ecolarice is a registered trademark; the timber undergoes thermal treatment which improves its performance and resistance to mould and borer attacks). This framework of regular spaces is needed to position and install the insulating glass and windows. Outside of this, a second metallic trellis works structurally with the former to support the solar protection panels. Each panel can be easily removed and repositioned so that the exterior texture can be set up to the user’s liking. Upon request the brise soleis can be sliding.
The protective glass on the roof has solar control and is triple glazed on the walls. The size, number and types of windows can be calibrated to customer needs.
The framework has been designed to be perfectly caulked and graded as energy class A.
With his Aggregati veranda, Vercelli celebrates a return to nature, which has always been present in his work and in his thoughts.
It’s a large space defined by wood and glass, which uninterruptedly unite the exterior and interior. This impressive continuum allows the natural world to enter, or if you prefer, where the hammam or shower area, flag store or bedroom ‘step outside’ to enjoy the scents and silence of the forest.
